From First-of-a-Kind Systems to the Future of Cooling We’ve Done IT Before

We set out to find a natural refrigerant heat pump — and discovered it didn’t exist. Synthetic refrigerants were already becoming a liability, but the market had no compelling alternative.

What started as a clean-tech refrigerant breakthrough quickly found its first application in data centers. These facilities are hitting a wall: AI and high-performance computing generate heat that legacy cooling systems can’t handle. At the same time, synthetic refrigerants face increasing regulatory pressure and long-term risk. Operators are left with complex, costly systems that still fall short.

At Icebox Energy, we’re building something different: an end-to-end cooling platform that uses carbon dioxide (CO₂) — a natural, ultra-low-GWP refrigerant — designed to integrate easily, cut operating costs, and support the most demanding compute environments. No stranded assets. No complexity. Just better cooling. We’re not here to talk about sustainability for the sake of optics. We’re here because future-proof infrastructure demands better thermodynamics, better economics, and fewer tradeoffs. That’s where CO₂ comes in and that’s what Icebox Energy makes possible.

We’re a team of engineers, scientists, and builders with experience across climate tech, mechanical systems, and high-density compute. And we’re focused entirely on rethinking data center cooling from the outside-in.
